Where To Work

3 Best Coworking Spaces in Madeira

Madeira was the original digital nomad experiment β€” and it worked. The Portuguese government created the Ponta do Sol Digital Nomad Village and the island took it seriously. These 3 coworking spaces carry Nomad Magazine on-site, in a place that was designed to make remote work feel like the right choice.

Why people work from Madeira

Madeira has year-round mild climate (18–25Β°C), fast fibre internet, subsidised coworking infrastructure, and a small but tight-knit nomad community. The island is safe, English-friendly, and strikingly beautiful. You'll get work done and not feel bad about where you're doing it.

Neighbourhoods & location context

Ponta do Sol is where the Digital Nomad Village was established β€” a small village with a community space, sea views, and a social dynamic that's genuinely different from city coworking. Funchal (the capital) has more traditional urban spaces and all city amenities.

Who Madeira suits

Nomads who want nature access without sacrificing connectivity. Those drawn to a tight community rather than anonymous city coworking. Anyone who wants to work and hike and surf in the same week without it feeling like a compromise.

Cost, vibe & best season

Madeira is affordable for a Portuguese destination β€” day passes from €10–18, monthly from €100–150 in Ponta do Sol. Funchal runs slightly higher. Flights from European capitals are frequent and cheap. Weather is excellent year-round β€” no real bad season.

Our Story

We have always been passionate about buildings with history. With character. Twelve years ago, Cowork Funchal was a risky dream of a young entrepreneur in Madeira, when people barely knew what a coworking space was. Today, we are proud of the family we have built, of the many friends who return often because they feel at home here. We have 5 coworking rooms with 53 desks available; an outdoor patio that charms with its uncompromising charisma, and 24 possible workspaces. Yes, we've also surrendered to the benefits of having phone booths at the house. At our place, you'll find 2 meeting rooms and another 2 reserved for training. We are also fortunate to have 11 private offices. And we could go on, but we prefer to sum it up: at Cowork Funchal, we have plenty of space and are eager to welcome all those who, whether near or far, prefer to work in a suitable space, with the plus of a friendly community.

Madeira Friends Hub

Our Story

It all started with burpees. What began as sweaty workouts in Funchal’s old town grew into Madeira’s most welcoming community with events and activities for every personality. But we wanted more than workouts. We dreamed of a place to connect, share skills, host workshops and events, work from, and build ideas together. After months of searching, we found it: the Madeira Friends Hub. Just steps from where it all began, it offers both indoor and outdoor space, a bold black-and-white character, views towards the cable car and the best part? It even welcomes our paw friends. Best of all, the renovation was brought to life with help from our community. What makes it special? It’s not just a hub, it’s the Madeira Friends community Madeira Friends Hub: building Madeira’s future, a home for locals and internationals.
